MTNL welcomes mobile number portability

New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) State-owned telecom provider MTNL today welcomed the government's announcement of mobile number portability saying it will generate additional opportunity for it.

''It is expected that some of the high-end customers will be facilitated to migrate to MTNL,'' a company statement said.

The steps taken by the Government to provide this service, will facilitate MTNL to cater to the needs of customers, it added.

Number portability will enable customers to move from one mobile service to another within GSM, and also between GSM and CDMA, while retaining the same number. It gives flexibility to customers and keeps operators on their toes lest their service quality falls.
