Illicit liquor worth Rs 17 lakh seized, 6 held

Lucknow, Nov 19: Six smugglers were arrested and sent to jail after 955 boxes of illicit liquor, estimated at Rs 17 lakh in the market, seized during raids in different districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, police said.

A truck carrying 610 boxes of liquor was intercepted in Phoolpur area of Azamgarh district. Three people were arrested after the seizure worth Rs 10 lakh was made late last night, they said.

Besides, 345 liquor boxes were seized in a raid at Gulavati area of Bulandshahr district.

Another three smugglers were nabbed from the spot in connection with the crime.
