HC directs not to give connections to unauthorised constructions

Chennai, Nov 19 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the State Government not to provide water, sewage and electricity connections to the unauthorised constructions at Udhagamandalam in Tamil Nadu.

Based on a Public Interest Litigation(PIL) filed by G Rajendran, a practicing lawyer in the Madras High Court, seeking to restrain the unauthorised constructions at Udhagamandalam, the first bench of Madras High Court, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice V Ramasubramanyam admitted the PIL and issued notice to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and Water Supply and Sewage Board and directed them not to provide power, water and sewage connections.

The petitioner prayed the Court to direct the authorities concerned to stop providing water, power and sewage connections to the unauthorised constructions and also to disconnect supply to the illegally approved buildings.
