Fake currency seized from Thar Express passengers, 2 held

Jodhpur, Nov 19 (UNI) The Revenue Intelligence Directorate sleuths have seized fake currency of Rs 19.5 lakh from two passengers, including a woman, of the Thar Express which arrived here from Pakistan yesterday.

According to official sources, the accused, the Indian woman and her son, had gone to Pakistan by the international train service a few days ago and returned to Jodhpur yesterday by the same train.

They said the fake currency notes of Rs 19,54,000, in denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, were concealed in a consignment of shoes and chappals reportedly bought by the accused in Pakistan.

The security agencies are conducting further investigation in this connection.

This is the second major incident of fake currency smuggling by passengers of the Thar Express.

Earlier, the security agencies had seized fake currency of Rs 33 lakh from two passengers of this train at the Nizzamunddin railway station in New Delhi in June this year.
