Bargarh bandh to protest police action on teachers
Sambalpur, Nov 19 (UNI) Normal life was affected in the western orissa town of Bargarh today following a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Congress to protest the police action on teachers, last Saturday.
The pro-bandh activists blocked the NH 6 and other major roads of the district. The government offices, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed in view of the bandh.
About 500 demonstrators were arested during the day, were later released.
The police on Saturday last resorted to lathicharge at various places in the State on the teachers who were demonstrating before the District Collectorate offices demanding payment of salary in time.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had already ordered a high level inquiry in to the incident.
