Four drown in Bhandara Dist

Nagpur, Nov 18: Four persons, including a woman and two children, drowned in a village tank in Maharashtra's Bhandara district today.

According to the police, the four persons, identified as Shalini Bhanarkar (26), Akash Bhanarkar (4), Rani Bhanarkar (1) and Vilas Dighore (30), drowned in the tank in village Bhawal, about 40 kilometres from Bhandara, this evening.

The tragedy occurred when Shalini and her children were being dropped back home after the Diwali celebrations by her brother Vilas, the police said.

The four had stopped at the tank as Rani wanted to relieve herself. Rani slipped and fell into the water as her mother Shalini was washing her. Shalini plunged into the water to save her daughter.

As the two began to drown, Vilas jumped into the tank to save his sister and niece. As the three disappeared under the water, a panicked Akash also entered the tank and drowned, police added.
