Kathmandu, Nov 18 (UNI) Former US President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to visit Nepal from November 21-24 to encourage the leadership of the country to initiate urgent measures for restoring peace in the Himalayan nation.

Mr Carter will meet political leaders, senior government officials, election commissioners and representatives of the civil society organisations and marginalised groups, a statement issued by the Carter Center in Nepal said.

''Mr Carter will lead a delegation including Jeff Carter, assistant project director of the Center's Conflict Resolution Programme; Ambassador A Peter Burleigh, Carter Center senior advisor; Dr David Pottie, associate director of the Center's Democracy Programme; and Darren Nance, Carter Center Nepal field director,'' the statement said.

The 2002 Nobel Peace laureate is visiting Nepal for the second time in a year amidst deepening political crisis with the parties failing to arrive at a compromise on the recent decisions of the interim parliament to declare the nation a republic and adopt proportional electoral system.
