Mumbai, Nov 16 (UNI) Municipal corporators can utilise their funds in the Slum Rehabilitation Act scheme if required, Mumbai Municipal Commisioner Jairaj Phatak said today.

Speaking to reporters today, Mr Phatak said that the ward committee chairmen of H West and H East wards and Shiv Sena councillor Bala Sawant had chaired a meeting in this regard last week, where it was mentioned that many SRA projects in the city are not completed due to differences between the builders and the slum dwellers and in such a situation, the councillor should be allowed to use the councillor fund for such schemes.

In many of the projects in the city, there are cases wherein the residents have been living in transit camps and slums for many years due to the dispute amongst themselves and the builders and have been deprived of water supply, toilets and drainage systems in these areas.

The utilisation of the corporators fund in the projects will provide the slum dwellers and also the residents of the transit camps with the basic necessities.

Mr Phatak added that the usage of councillor's fund in the SRA schemes in some cases will be allowed after verifying cause of utilisation of the funds.
