Lucknow, Nov 16 (UNI) Former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today asked students to be prepared to sweat for achieving their goals.

Addrerssing a gathering at an education institution here, the former President noted that the students should be ready to sweat to achieve their goals in life. ''At the same time, it is important to have an aim,'' he added.

The Missile Man explained that hard work was essential to defeat problems in life, ''and this helps to succeed.'' He said parents and primary school teachers can play an important role to inculcate the virtues of righteousness in children. ''Here, the teachers can help students enjoy the success of others...it is hard,'' he added.

Talking on his Vision 2020, the former President said the urban-rural divide should thin down and resources like water and energy should be available to all on an equal basis. ''I percieve no division in the impartation of education and healthcare facilities,'' he added.

Dr Kalam, who had earlier in the day attended a programme in the industrial city of Kanpur, said the government of the future should be much more responsive and corruption free.

He said a creative mind can only lead to new discoveries and inventions.

''There was a time when people believed that objects heavier than air cannot fly. But that was proved wrong shortly afterwards,'' he explained to drive home his point.
