Chennai, Nov 16 (UNI) A local court today rejected bail to Congress Councillor Saidai Williams, arrested in connection with the stabbing of Tamil Nadu Youth Congress President Mayura S Jayakumar at TNCC headquarters 'Sathyamurthy Bhavan' here on November 11.

Principal Sessions Judge Aruna Jagadeesan dismissed the bail plea, stating that investigation was at the preliminary stage and the accused, if let out on bail, could tamper with the evidence.

Williams, in his bail application, submitted that he was innocent and not involved in the violent incident. He was falsely implicated in the case, he added.

In all, police had registered cases against 19 Congressmen, including Dr Vishnu Prasad, party MLA and son of TNCC President M Krishnaswamy. Police have arrested Williams and his aide Mohan and remanded them to judicial custody.

Apprehending arrest in the case, Dr Prasad, cited as the prime accused in the case, had moved Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail, and the court had restrained the police from arresting him for two weeks.
