Jammu, Nov 16 (UNI) A local court here today granted bail to a 72-year-old religious cleric in an attempt to rape case.
The relegious preacher, identified as Ghulam Hussain, was arrested by the police on November 5 this year for attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl, whom he had brought from Srinagar with an assurance of a government job.
''On coming to Jammu, the accused booked a room in a local hotel and allegedly paid Rs 700 to the complainant saying that it was her pay for the month of December and her appointment order will be issued shortly,'' sources told UNI.
Meanwhile, the accused allegedly attempted to rape the girl. She, however, managed to escape from the hotel and called her parents and narrated the incident to them.
The STD/PCO owner informed the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
Forest Magistrate M R Chak, after hearing Prosecuting Officer Vandna Jamwal, who appeared for the police, and defence lawyer Prince Khanna, granted bail to the accused subject to the condition that he will furnish a local surety of Rs 25,000 and a personal bond of the same amount.
