Postal Dept. launches speed post drop box in Kochi

Kochi, Nov 15 (UNI) The Postal Department today launched its national initiative to set up Speed Post drop boxes with Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams dropping a letter in a special drop box at the busy Manorama Junction in the city.

Congratualting the Department of Posts, Prof. Williams said the move was most timely as with the advent of information technology, people believed in fast means of communication.

She also lauded the department for playing a major role in national integration through its stamps.

The Mayor released a special festive stamp pack, sponsored by UTI, by handing it over to Mr Anil Warrier, Chief Manager, UTI, Ernakulam.

Presiding over the function, Post Master General(Central region) Shobha Koshi said the drop boxes were just one of the initiatives of the department in popularizing its services. The coming months will see the Ernakulam Head Post Office having a Postal Finance Mart where a financial advisor will give counsel on investment options.

Special post cards depicting the beautiful scenery and monuments of Kerala will be made available in certain post offices, she said.

On the occasion, the mayor also presented an award of Rs 6,000 to Master Dinesh Kamath, a local student of Class Four, who won the second prize in the all-India stamp designing contest last year.
