Police conduct search operation in Yerawada jail

Pune, Nov 14:The police carried out a search operation in the Yerawada central prison here today to detect whether any narcotic and other drugs were allegedly being supplied to the convicts lodged there for various crimes.

The sources in the police control room said acting on a specific information that illegal drug peddling is rampant in the jail, a squad of 160 policemen, including one DCP, three ACPs, six PIs, 30 PSIs and 120 constables, searched the prison for nearly four hours but the operation did not yield any result.

Six months before, the police had carried out a similar operation in the prison but without any finding, sources added.
