L and T signs up with Scania to launch multi axle tippers

Bangalore, Nov 15 (UNI) Engineering and construction giant Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T) in a significant development launched new multi axle tipper trucks of Swedish heavy vehicle major Scania at the Mining and Construction equipment expo-EXCON 2007 here.

Talking to newsmen here last night L and T Construction and Mining Equipment Business Unit President J P Nayak said the company aimed to sell about 80 tippers by March next year and within the next few year the number was expected to touch 700.

The P380 Multi-Axle Tipper Truck launched yesterday was one of the high performing trucks from the range of heavy duty trucks manufactured by SCANIA. It had a host of powerful and convenient features that mades it the most versatile truck in its class, for a wide range of application.

Mr Nayak said that the construction and mining industry had been growing at about 30 per cent annually and the demand for such vehicles was expected to be around 1000 this year up from 700 sold last year. The potential for growth was huge following the projection of building power plants to the tune of 160,000 mw over the next two five year plans that would witness a five fold increase in coal mining.

The Construction&Mining Equipment Business Unit of Larsen&Toubro Limited, which is headquartered in Bangalore, markets the products manufactured by L&T Komatsu&Komatsu. This relationship with SCANIA, would further strengthen L&T's strong presence in the construction&mining sector. L&T's offerings to these sectors include a broad range of Hydraulic Excavator, Loader Backhoes, Vibratory Compactors, Aggregate Crushing Systems, Stacker-Reclaimers&Surface Miners Mr Nayak said.

The cost of tipper truck ranged between Rs.58 and Rs.65 lakhs depending upon the configuration.
