Koch-Rajbonshi rail blockade hits train movement in Assam
Kokrajhar, Nov 15 (UNI) Train services were severely hit in Assam today following a 36-hour rail blockade, called by Koch-Rajbonshi outfits, demanding accord of Scheduled Tribe status for the community.
The AKRSU, Chilarai Sena and Koch-Rajbonshi Mahila Sena had jointly called the blockade.
Northeastern Frontier railway sources informed that several trains, including Rajdhani Express, Kamrup Express, Bangalore Express and Brahmaputra Mail, were delayed by several hours due to the blockade.
However, normal traffic is now been restored, the sources added.
Meanwhile, more than a thousand picketers, including All Koch-Rajbonshi Students' Union (AKRSU) president Biswajit Ray, were also detained by the police from several places.
The picketers were detained from Simaltapur, Srirampur, Gosaigaon, Sautara, Salakati, New Bongaigaon, Bijni, Sorbhog, Tihu and Simon Chapori.
