Moga, Nov 15 (UNI) Communist Party of India General Secretary A B Bardhan today called upon farm labour to remain united and fight for their rights and social security as the economic policies of the UPA government were not different from the previous NDA government.

He addressed the 10,000 strong workers of the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha to mark the 40th annual celebration of the sabha in the Townhall stadium here.

Instead of distributing land to the landless people, the UPA government by creating Special Economic Zones had been benefitting the monopoly houses, he said.

Comrade Bardhan claimed that only the left front was fighting for the cause of the labour class in and outside the Parliament and neither the Central government nor state governments took any step to improve their lot.

He called upon the people to be ready for launching a struggle to achieve the goals.

While appreciating the initiative taken by the UPA government for launching of the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, he said it was unfortunate that there were no sufficient budgetary provisions for it.

Mr Bardhan urged the UPA government to take positive steps to improve the economic condition of farm labour.

The CPI leader was strongly critical of Union Government's wheat import policy and urged the Centre to provide remunerative prices of farm produce according to price index.

Comrade Naginder Ojha, General Secretary, announced to extend full support to the two-day Chaka Jam programme of the leftist trade unions from December 4.

Other speakers were strongly critical of the anti-people policies of the UPA government at the Centre and SAD-BJP alliance government in Punjab.
