Youth commits suicide in lock-up

Malda, Nov 14 (UNI) A youth committed suicide in a police lock-up today by consuming poison after being arrested for allegedly torturing his wife.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Sujit Sarkar, the 27-year-old youth from Pachpara village, was arrested after his in-laws complained that he tortured his wife.

He denied the allegations and later committed suicide by consuming poison in the lock-up.

Mr Sarkar reached the place upon being informed and said the man was not frisked before being put into the lock-up. He carried poison which he consumed.

An inquiry will be conducted and if found guilty the duty officer would be suspended. The victim's body was sent for postmortem.
