Punjab Assembly Speaker gets permission to go abroad

Rupnagar, Nov 14 (UNI) A local court today granted permission to Punjab Assembly Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon to go abroad from November 20 to December 15.

Kahlon is an accused in the cases relating to alleged JCB machine purchase scam and recruitment scam in Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat department during his stint as minister in the previous Akali Dal government.

The trial of these cases had been stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Rupnagar Special Judge G S Saran granted permission to Kahlon to go abroad on the application moved by him in this regard few days back.

Kahlon had sought permission to visit England for participating in a programme of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

While granting him permission to go abroad, the judge directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs five lakh and one surety of the same amount.
