National Metallurgist Award 2007 for Dr Baldev Raj

Chennai, Nov 14 (UNI) Dr Baldev Raj, a distinguished scientist and Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam has won the coveted National Metallurgist Award (Research-Academy) 2007.

The award was given away during the National Metallurgist Day annual technical meeting of Indian Institute of Metals at Mumbai, a release here said.

The award, constituted by the Ministry of Steel and Indian Institute of Metals, carried a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, citation and certificate.

The award was given to two eminent professionals annually, one from the industry and another from research and academy.

Dr Baldev Raj steered science and technology programmes with a mission to develop world class technology in Fast Breeder Reactors and Fuel Cycle.

His specialisations included materials charaterization linked to performance, NDE and quality management, testing and evaluation, the release added.
