Mayawati renames Hatras district as Mahamaya Nagar for 3rd time

Lucknow, Nov 14 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party government in Uttar Pradesh today reverted back the name of Hatras district to Mahamaya Nagar for the third time.

The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati.

Earlier in 1997, Ms Mayawati had named Hatras district as Mahamaya Nagar, after the mother of Lord Buddha.

However, in 1998, the then UP government reverted the district to its old name of Hatras.

In 2002, when Ms Mayawati became the Chief Minister of the state for the third time, she again changed it to Mahamaya Nagar. But the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in 2006 reverted it back to Hatras.

The new Mahamaya Nagar district will comprise of four tehsils of Hatras, Sikrandrarau, Sadabad and Sasni.
