Haryana to construct 207 anganwari centres

Yamunanagar, Nov 14 (UNI) Under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), the Haryana government would construct 207 anganwari centres in the state during the current financial year.

Besides 'mahila shakti sadans' would also come up in all the villages in a phased manner so that the women could be empowered".

This was stated by Haryana Child Welfare Council Vice President Asha Hooda while speaking at a state-level 'Children's day festival' held here today to honour meritorious students of the state and students of various Bal Bhavans for outstanding performances in extra curricular activities. .

Ms Hooda called upon the teachers and parents to give better education and moral values to their wards so that they grew up into good citizens.

She said society should ensure that children grow up in a clean environment and get due love and affection.

Ms Hooda said that there were scores of children who were not getting education due to financial conditions of their parents.

She said it was the duty of the society to take up the responsibilities of such children.

She said social organisations like Lions club and Rotary club must come forward and take up responsibility of educating children.

Honarary general secretary of the council Manju Gupta talked about the various activities of the council in the state. The council was running 137 ICDS projects including 18 in urban slums in the state.

She announced that soon a free helpline would be started to help children in distress.
