GAIL, Qatar to set up petrochemical complex

New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) has expressed interest to set up a mega-integrated petrochemical complex at Qatar of 1.9 million metric tonnes capacity based on ethane feed.

In a meeting between GAIL chief U D Choubey and Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) recently, the two sides expressed their willingness to set up the project at Qatar on the PPP model.

QAPCO told GAIL to submit is interest in this petrochemical project in Qatar for consideration, sources said.

GAIL also expressed its keeness about partnering a leading private petrochemical player and offer an effective proposal for QAPCO's consideration, they added.

It has already an existing petrochemical plant at Pata, while the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer plant is being constructed in Assam.

GAIL has earmarked a capex plan of Rs 2,744 crore during the current fiscal for its pipeline projects, oil and gas exploration and expansion of petrochemical plant.
