Double lifer for ex-IAS officer's son in murder case

Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 14 (UNI) A local court today awarded double life imprisonment to the son of a former Tamil Nadu IAS officer and 11 others in connection with the murder of AIADMK functionary M R Ravi at Ambattur last year.

Holding that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, District and Sessions judge Nagaraj convicted 'Mugapair' A Raja, son of former IAS officer Adhimoolam, and 11 others.

The judge also held guilty three other accused in the case and awarded them life sentence, besides seven years rigorous imprisonment in respect of four other accused.

The prosecution case was that Ravi, the AIADMK urban wing secretary, was in his office on June two, 2006, when an armed gang barged into his office and hacked him to death.

In all, 19 accused were arraigned in the case. Nagoor Meeran, one of the accused, had died during trial, the prosecution said.
