2-Pakistan's Musharraf considered resigning,Sky says

LONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) Britain's Sky News reported today that President Pervez Musharraf had said he had considered resigning over the political crisis in Pakistan.

In an interview to be broadcast later today, Musharraf told Sky he had considered his position, but now felt he was the man to lead Pakistan into democracy and would not step down unless and until stability returned to his country.

''When there is no turmoil in Pakistan, I will step down,'' the Sky News Web site quoted Musharraf as saying. ''I am not a dictator, I want democracy.'' The military ruler declared a state of emergency on November. 3 and has since detained thousands of opposition politicians, activists and lawyers.

His actions have been widely condemned by Western governments which are urging him to end military rule and move towards democracy with free and fair elections next January.

A Sky reporter who had conducted the interview said Musharraf had told her he felt let down by the West and betrayed by the media.

''We may lose the battle on terror because of misreporting by some parts of the media in Pakistan and around the world,'' he was quoted as saying.
