Islamabad, Nov 12: Pakistan asserted on Monday that it had sufficient 'retaliatory capacity' to defend its nuclear weapons, after there were reports of United States making contingency plans to stop them from falling into 'wrong hands'.

Terming the reports as 'irresponsible', the Foreign Office said that Pakistan is ready and is able to defend its nuclear arsenal, and that there exists no risk of the arms being taken.

The comment followed a US-based newspaper report that with Pakistan in the midst of a political crisis, the United States had drawn up contingency plans in case the Pakistani military was in danger of losing control of the weapons.
