Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet is understood to have approved the proposal of the Mining Department to appoint additional staff to oversee its sand auctions, sources said.

Sand auction was taken over by the Mining Department from the Panchayat Raj Department, requiring an additional staff of 158 and incurring an additional expenditure of Rs five crore annually.

The Government had constituted a commitee with Ministers of R and B, Mining, Panchayat Raj and Transport to study the transport of sand tonnage in the goods carriers by the contractors. Action would be taken against erring contractors.

The Cabinet decided not to allow export of sand to other states, even as it ruled out export of granite to Sri Lanka through the Kakinada port.
