Opposition resorted to muscle power: CITU

Kolkata, Nov 12 (UNI) Claiming that the people rejected today's ''Bangla bandh'', the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) alleged that the Opposition resorted to muscle power to enforce a shutdown in the state.

''The bandh supporters created terror by setting ablaze buses and blocking roads to make it a success. But the employees and workers of the state have rejected it, '' CITU State Secretary Kali Ghosh said.

He alleged that an attempt was being made by reactionary forces to disturb the political stability and industrialisation drive in the state.

Mr Ghosh claimed that between 60 and 90 per cent employees and workers joined duty in different factories and offices in the industrial areas of Kolkata, Hooghly, Howrah, Bardhaman, North Twsentyfour Parganas, Bankur and Purulia, while work was normal in Koflkata and Haldia ports and in the city's underground railway system.
