Number portability to be implemented soon
New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) Telecom regulator TRAI today said that the much-awaited number portability service, which enables users to switch operators while retaining their mobile numbers will soon become a reality.
''I am very confident that number portability will be implemented soon,'' TRAI Chiarman Nripendra Misra told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here.
TRAI's Chairman's statement at the ''Workshop on spectrum management'' comes in the wake of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) shelving regulator's proposal for the implementation of portability by April 2007.
This cutting-edge technology enables customers to move from one mobile service to another within GSM, and also between GSM and CDMA, while retaining the same number. It gives flexibility to customers and keeps operators on their toes lest their service quality falls.
