MoU to develop Baitarani West Coal block

Bhubaneswar, Nov 12 (UNI) The Orissa Hydro Power Corporation(OHPC), Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for development of Baitarani West Coal block allotted to them.

The OHPC, the GPCL and the KSEB agreed to set up a joint venture project for exploration of the 650 million tonne capacity coal block to be used for power generation.

OHPC chairman U P Singh, GPCL CMD V Rajlaxmi and KSEB Chairman B N Manmohan signed the MoU in presence of Orissa chief secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy and Development Commissioner R N Bohidar.

The Centre had allotted the coal block to these undertakings in July to be shared equally among themselves, official sources said.
