Four people drowned in boat mishap

Patna, Nov 12 (UNI) Four people drowned in a boat mishap at the Punpun river near Sanpura village in the district tonight, police sources here informed.

Speaking to UNI over phone from the spot, about 40 km from here, Sub-Divisonal Police Officer (SDPO), Masaurhi, Sushil Kumar said the accident occurred when the boat carrying 30 people from the Lodipur Ghat to Sanpura Village,was caught in a high current midsteram in the mighty river before being overturned.

While 26 people swam to safety, bodies of two occupants could be recovered from a few hundred metres downsteram. Two other persons, however, remained missing since the mishap took place at around 20-00 hours, Mr Kumar said adding that a search operation to trace the missing people was on with the help of the local people.

Some divers had also been pressed into service by the district administration for the same purpose, he said.
