Four people drown after boat overturns

Patna, Nov 12 (UNI) Four people drowned after a boat they were travelling in overturned at Punpun river near Sanpura village in the district tonight, police sources here informed.

Speaking to UNI over phone from the spot, about 40 km from here, Sub-Divisonal Police Officer (SDPO), Masaurhi, Sushil Kumar said the accident occurred when the boat carrying 30 people from the Lodipur Ghat to Sanpura Village overturned after being caught in a high current midstream in the river.

While 26 people swam to safety, bodies of two were recovered from a few hundred metres downstream. Two other people were still missing as the accident took place at 2000 hrs, Mr Kumar said, adding that a search operation to trace the missing people was on with the help of the local people.

Some divers had also been pressed into service by the district administration for the same purpose, he said.
