After a brief lull, monkey menace rears its ugly head again

New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) More than a fortnight after Delhi Deputy Mayor S S Bajwa fell to death while fending off a monkey, the simian menace once again came hunting the residents of east Delhi.

A monkey, in a three-hour rampage, injured more than 20 people, including children and women, in east Delhi's Shastri Park area on Saturday.

Soon after the incident, the residents of the area, armed with lathis, went after the monkey but in vain.

Most of the injured were referred to Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital for treatment, where all of them, barring two, were discharged after being administered first aid, Medical Superintendent P S Dixit told UNI today while playing down the incident.

He said, ''Though I am not aware of the details of the incident, I know this much that no serious injuries were there and most of them were allowed to go home after they were administered first aid.'' Some of the injured were also referred to a hospital in the Shastri Park area, while one was admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital where she is recuperating.

According to MCD officials, they were doing their best to contain the simian menace and were also trying to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
