124 lakh tonne paddy procured in Punjab

Chandigarh, Nov 12 (UNI) Government agencies and private millers have procured about 124 lakh tonnes of paddy in Punjab so far.

Out of total procurement of 123.76 lakh tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 101. 43 tonnes so far whereas millers had lifted 22.33 tonnes, an official spokesman said today.

PUNGRAIN had procured 26.02 tonnes whereas MARKFED procured 23.88 lakh tonnes. PUNSUP procured 25.72 lakh tonnes, PSWC 13.40 lakh tonnes and PAIC 11.07 lakh tonnes.

The Central government agency FCI had been able to procure 1.30 lakh tonnes.

The spokesman said Ludhiana District with 16.41 lakh tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas Sangrur District with 15.53 lakh tonnes was at second slot and Patiala district with a 12.88 lakh tonnes ranked at third position.

The State government has set up 1544 procurement centres to ensure smooth procurement of paddy, he added.
