Tripura seeks UK help to protect vultures
Agartala, Nov 11: The Tripura Wildlife Protection Agency has initiated a project to protect and conserve the vultures following the Ornithologists' report of gradual disappearance of one of nature's most efficient scavengers from the skyline.
Besides launching a public campaign against superstitious myths about vultures, the state Forest Department had sought help from UK-based organisation Royal Society for Preservation of Birds (RSPB) to protect the species.
According to official reports, not a single vulture was sighted in urban locations of the state during the last eight years while the numbers of the bird had sharply declined in interior locations and forest areas as well.
