Five-year-old boy injured by leopard in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 23 (UNI) A leopard injured a five-year-old boy in north Kashmir today, official sources said.

They said a leopard appeared at village Mawar Handwar in the frontier district of Kupwara and attacked Aamir Ahmad Khan. However the villagers rescued the boy and took him to hospital in a critical condition.

The man-animal conflict has increased in the Kashmir valley resulting in the death of more than a dozen persons and injuries to several others during the past few months.

In retaliation villagers also killed four wild animals in the valley during the same period, evoking massive protest by several organizations across the country after some television channels shows a bear being set on fire by agitated villagers.

However, people in Kashmir rejected the protests saying that scores of villagers, including women and children, were killed or wounded by wild animals.
