Efficient management of gau shalas needed: Governor

Bhopal, Nov 11: Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar has stressed on the need for more efficient management of Gau Shalas for proper conservation of cows and said cow slaughter should be prevented at any cost.

Dr Jakhar, while speaking as chief guest at a Govardhan Poojan function here yesterday, said conservation of bovine family was beneficial for all.

''There were very good Gau Shalas in Germany, France, Israel and the US. Special attention is paid for cow protection there,'' he said, regretting that sometimes cows were subject to humiliation.

The practice of adulteration of cow milk and its products should be strictly prevented.

Presiding over the function, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said conservation of cows would help economic development of the state. He said funds would be provided for at the rate of Rs five per day for providing fodder to cows which are brought to police station for some reason. Lack of arrangement of fodder for such cows causes various difficulties to them.

He said farmers should be given equal importance for rearing and conservation of cows which would be helpful in their making farming more profitable. He said cow slaughter had been effectively checked in the state.

Shankaracharya of Shriramchandrapuram Math of Karnataka Shri Raghaveshar Bharti Swamiji also spoke onthe occasion.
