Chennai, Nov 11 (UNI) A policeman, awarded double promotion for his role in the gunning down of forest brigand Veerappan, has been placed under ''Vacancy Reserve'' after he allegedly misbehaving with a woman constable under the influence of alcohol.
According to the complaint, Sub-Inspector R Saravanan of Dharmapuri, attached to the Traffic,in an inebriated condition, had entered the District Treasury, and abused and harassed one of the two women constables there on November 3.
Acting on a complaint by the victim to the District Superintendent of Police, Dharmapuri town police registered a case and conducted preliminary inquiries. Based on the initial reports,Saravanan was placed under Vacancy Reserve.
As part of incentives given by the previous AIADMK government to honour the police personnel involved in anti-Veerappan operations, Saravanan had been given double promotion.
