Kozhikode, Nov 10 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishan today said efforts were on to restore normalcy at Thalasseri in Kannur district where two people were killed in the recent political violence.

Talking to newspersons here after paying tributes to CPI(M) activist Parayi Pavithran, who died in a hospital after suffering injuries in attack on November 6, allegedly by BJP activists, he said the police had been given a free-hand to nab the culprits involved in the violence.

Mr Balakrishnan said special squads have been formed by the police to identify the criminals.

Besides, meetings were being held by various political parties to work out measures aimed at bringing a lasting peace in the localities.

Many activists owing allegiance to both the CPI(M) and the BJP were also injured in an attack between the two parties last week.
