Experimental project in Satpuda region in MP

Indore, Nov 10 (UNI) An experimental project has been launched in Satpuda region of Madhya Pradesh as a part of a national scheme of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for finding out estimated tiger count besides their conservation.

The project was being carried out jointly by the state government and the Wildlife Institute of India.

The scheme was being operated in 17 states. Information pertaining to natural habitat of tigers has been gathered at taluka level. Besides using special strategies, help was taken from local people and the Forest Survey of India.

As per official information, tiger census 2001-2002 had put number of tigers to 3,642 of which 1,576 were in conserved area.
