District Supply Officer held in bribery case

Rajkot, Nov 10 (UNI) A team of Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths arrested a District Supply Officer (DSO) and his middleman for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh from a fair price shop owner here last night.

The shop owner Aslam Darya, in his complaint, stated that DSO Dinesh Baranda had demanded Rs seven lakh as bribe money from him in order to prevent his arrest in view of irregularity found in his shop. But, Baranda later settled for Rs two lakh and asked the complainant to pay the bribe amount to his middle man, Hasmukh Vyas, in order to avoid action against him, sources said today.

Acting on the complaint, ACB sleuths laid a trap and arrested Vyas red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh from Mr Darya in the Navalnagar area of this district.

Later, on the basis of a telephonic conversation between the complainant and DSO, recorded by the ACB, they also apprehended Baranda, sources added.
