Quake shakes northwest Iran, no damage reported

TEHRAN, Nov 9 (Reuters) A 4.7 magnitude earthquake jolted northwestern Iran today, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, state radio said.

The quake struck the city of Orumiyeh and was also strongly felt in other towns.

''Many panicky people in Orumiyeh left their houses after the earthquake, which occurred at 12:40 p m local time (1410 IST),'' state radio said.

Natural disaster experts say oil-producing Iran is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world because it is criss-crossed by several major faultlines.
