China passenger bus crash kills 12

BEIJING, Nov 9 (Reuters) A bus crashed into a truck in east China's Shandong province killing 12 people and injuring 38, state media reported today.

The bus was carrying 55 passengers when it collided with an empty oil tanker on Wednesday at a highway intersection in Dingtao county, Xinhua News Agency said.

China has the world's deadliest roads, due to routine disregard for traffic regulations, lax enforcement of laws and a cavalier attitude towards safety.

Last year nearly 90,000 people died in traffic accidents and 400,000 were injured, or about one death every five minutes.
