Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) Kerala Government today asked the Centre to file an appeal against the Kerala High Court staying a notification issued by the Director-General of Foreign Trade banning import of Ppalm oil through Cochin Port.

The Commerce Ministry should file an appeal and the state government would be a party to it, Chief Minister V S Achutanandan said in a statement here.

The Centre had banned the import of palm oil after the state government mounted pressure on the Union Government and coconut farmers got good price for the produce, he said.

With the stay, the price of coconuts had started to come down, which would adversely affect the farmers, he pointed out adding the Centre should immediately file an appeal to vacate the High Court's stay order.
