Lucknow, Nov 7 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today sent a formal letter to the Centre recommending a CBI probe into the missing and possible murder of a Dalit girl in Faizabad.

State Food Processing Minister Anand Sen Yadav had to resign from the Mayawati Ministry yesterday following his alleged involvement in the case.

State Home Department officials here confirmed that a formal letter of recommendation has been sent to the Centre for holding a CBI probe into the entire issue.

The driver of the former minister, Vijay Sen Yadav -- who is also said to be his close relative -- is accused of kidnapping and murder of Shashi, a third year LLB student of Saket Degree College in Faizabad on October 22.

In his statement to the police, Vijay Sen claimed that he had a relationship with the girl and she committed suicide by jumping in the river Gomti. Though, later, Vijay admitted that he had murdered the girl and thrown her in Gomti near Sultanpur.

Meanwhile, the police have so far not recovered the body of the girl from the river even as several divers were pressed into service.
