Sensex sheds about 11O.84 points

Mumbai, Nov 7: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index today lost 110.84 points to close at 19,289.83 in choppy trade, marked by high volatility.

Sensex ended in the red for the third straight day, losing about 700 points on poor global cues. Marker today witnessed consolidation as the bourses opened on a bullish note on strong overseas cues, dealers said.

The benchmark BSE index opened strong, gaining more than 150 points at 19,552.53 as compared to previous close of 19,400.67 in early trade. It touched a day's high of 19,678.50 and a low of 19,249.47.

However, the broader based National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index closed at a marginal loss of 4.15 points at 5,782.35 as compared to previous close of 5,786.50. It touched a day's high of 5,861.35 and a low of 5,744.30 during the day trade.

IT, Telecom and banking stocks were the major losers. However, Oil&gas, auto and capital goods stocks were the gainers. Heavyweight Reliance Industries rallied. Asian indices ended on a mixed note.

According to dealers, Reliance, BHEL, SBI and M&M were among the top Sensex gainers. The top Sensex losers were Infosys, HDFC Bank, Satyam and ICICI Bank.

The market breadth was negative. The BSE Mid-Cap index ended at 7,985.96, down 29.34 points or 0.37 pc and BSE small-cap closed at 9,695.13 down 107.90 points or 1.10pc. BSE clocked a turnover of Rs 6837 crore, lower than previous turnover of Rs 9922 crore.

Asian market provided a mixed picture of trade even as European markets were on the negative side.

BSE oil&gas index ended about 299 points up at 11,688.18, gaining 2.63 pc. GAIL, Reliance and HPCL were the top gainers. However, IT index ended down 197.27 points at 4,343.42. Infosys, Tech mahindra and Mphasis were among the top losers.

Auto index ended 0.34 pc up at 5,295.39. M&M and Maruti Suzuki were the top gainers in this counter. BSE bankex ended at 10,620.22 down 166.29 points or 1.54 pc. HDFC Bank, Canara Bank and ICICI Bank were among the top losers in this segment.

Capital goods index closed 41.07 points up at 19,738.36. Triveni Eng, BHEL, Kirloskar were the top gainers.

BSE FMCG index ended 16.23 points down at 2,010.22. Marico, Bata India and HUL were the top losers.

Realty index closed down by 109.99 points at 10,291.09, dip of 1.06 pc. Puravankara Project, Indiabulls Realestate, Sobha Developers were on the negative side.
