India rated leading tourist destination in Asia

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The ''focussed and sustained'' Incredible India tourism campaign in the international market has fetched India the coveted ''World Travel Awards-2007'' for the leading destination in Asia and top government Tourist and Convention Bureau in Asia.

''It is the result of our successful tourism campaigns abroad coupled with sustained efforts in improving the infrastructure of key heritage and tourist destinations of the country,'' a tourism ministry official said here today.

He said the popularity of Incredible India website, the promptness and pro-activeness of the Ministry of Tourism and its India Tourism offices has contributed to India getting the Asia's leading Government Tourist and Convention Bureau Award.

India was selected for the honour by travel agents from 190 countries through the ballot.

The winners of the regional categories will now compete for the world level awards, which will be announced in December this year, the official added.
