Hundreds of shops gutted in MP inferno

Gwalior, Nov 7 (UNI) As many as 618 fireworks shops and more than 100 two-wheelers were gutted as a fire swept through the Vyapar Mela Maidan (Trade Fair Ground) here today, police said.

Fire engines of the Indian Army and the Municipal Corporation had been pressed into service and were battling the blaze.

The loss due to the inferno could run into crores of rupees.

Reports said one person was killed and a few others sustained injuries.

The cause of the blaze is not known.

The police resorted to lathicharge to quell an irate mob which started pelting stoones after the incident.
