Dengue confirmed in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 7 (UNI) Dengue has claimed one life in Manipur, official sources said here today.

Medical Superintendent of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Prof Yambem Mohen said two siblings, from Moreh in Chandel district, were admitted to the RIMS here on October 21 with complaints of high fever for some days.

One of the girls, M Puni (9), died soon after admission, Prof Mohen added.

The blood samples of her younger sister, suffering from the same disease, were sent to the SRL Ranbaxy Ltd at Mumbai.

A report sent by the office stated that the girl was suffering from Dengue.

Later, she recovered fully and was discharged from the RIMS on November two.

Prof Mohen said he immediately alerted the officials of the state Health department, adding that they will be rushing to Moreh to examine the girl and collect other relevant information.

Meanwhile, sources said some persons, suffering from Dengue-like symptoms, had died during the past few weeks.

Prof Mohen urged the people of the state not to panic as Dengue was a curable disease.
