Bihar reeling under severe power crisis

Patna, Nov 7 (UNI) Bihar is reeling under severe power crisis as against its requirement of 1500 MW electricity, it was getting just 500 MW.

Concerned with the grim power situation, Union Water Resources Minister Jayprakash Narayan Yadav today called on Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi and apprised him of the power crisis in Bihar.

Mr Yadav said in a statement, copy of which was also issued here, that the power crisis was a major stumbling block in the development of the state.

He said the Union Power Minister has assured to make all possible arrangements for adequate power supply to Bihar, informed Mr Yadav.

The state should also make sincere efforts to enhance its generation,he added.

Mr Yadav urged Mr Shinde to convene a meeting of the NTPC and representatives of Bihar government in New Delhi to discuss and solve the problem.

He also requested the Union Power Minister to issue directions to the power grids for accelerating the pace of Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification programmes and instant power development and upgradation programmes in order to complete them within the stipulated period in Bihar specially in Munger, Jamui and Lakhisarai districts of his parliamentary constituency.
