Agriculture hit due to rain, shortage of seeds
Alappuzha, Nov 7 (UNI) The agricultural sector in this coastal district has been hit by continuous rains and non-availability of seeds.
According to the Agriculture Department, around 2,500 acres of cultivable land, including those in Kuttanad, were water-logged.
The farmers alleged that the state government was not providing adequate funds to build 'sand bunks' to protect the fields.
The Agriculture Department was not able to provide quality hybrid seeds, they added.
''Delay in availability of hybrid seeds has affected the agrarian calendar as the farmers have to solely depend on seed distributing agents,'' a farmer Kuriakose said.
